ADFAS Celebrates 50 years March 2017

ADFAS members and guests celebrate our 50 years in style on 8th March 2017!!

On Wednesday evening, as planned, we held a celebration dinner to mark the fiftieth anniversary year of Ashridge DFAS. 50 members and guests enjoyed a chat over a glass of bubbles, followed by a delicious meal and congenial company in pleasant surroundings at Boxmoor Lodge Hotel in Hemel Hempstead.

We welcomed several special guests.   Herts and Beds District Chairman Pat Styles spoke to greet us and wish us a Happy Anniversary, and later in the evening Michael Shirley, a NADFAS Trustee, gave us an update on current thinking and happenings at NADFAS House - especially the Association's own golden anniversary plans for next year, and the re-branding of NADFAS to become The Arts Society.

We invited Lady Liz Prosser, now the oldest (historically) ex- Chairman present on the night, to cut our 50th birthday cake, which we then enjoyed with our coffee.

We were also very interested to hear from Nicola Collins, Head of Art and Design at John F Kennedy School in Hemel Hempstead, about the work her students are doing using the printing press which we helped them to obtain last year.  She spoke to tell us how the project is progressing, and also brought some examples of the students' work for us to admire.  Some of us are hoping to visit her department and "have a go" very soon!

Our Chairman, Valerie Gunn, thanked all who had contributed to the Society over the years, making the point that there are always many unsung heroes, not just the Officers and Committee, without whom we could not function. She expressed admiration of all that had been achieved and enjoyed over the years, and led members in a Toast to the Society.

After the event
This is an email received following the ADFAS party from Roy Simmons, Chairman of ADFAS from 2001 to 2004 to our Secretary:

Dear Judy,

Just to tell you how much we enjoyed last night's celebratory dinner. We thought that the tables were beautifully decorated; the printed information/menus most impressive and the company great fun! It was evident that a good deal thought had gone into the planning and execution of the event - and it was much appreciated.

Best wishes,

Jill and Roy Simmons
